The show must go on.

The Dartmouth Middle School Drama Club is only a few days away from the opening of its first in-person performance in three years, starting on Thursday, April 7 at 7 p.m. and playing again the following night.

This year’s production is a musical revue titled “Peace, Love, & Broadway,” whose premise is a theater troupe getting ready for its first post-pandemic show.

“So one character is the director and all the rest are actors,” said Director and Drama Club Advisor Alex Bernardo, explaining that there will be bits of dialogue connecting the show tunes into a fuller story.

Bernardo said that the revue format will benefit the production's young cast, most of whom — because of the cancellation of the 2020 show and a virtual performance the following year — have never acted before.

“A lot of them are performing in their first musical ever,” he said, adding that only one student who was supposed to be in the 2020 show is in this year’s production. “There are a lot of new faces this year, so it is different, but that’s one of the ways a revue works well.”

Bernardo said that despite their inexperience, the students can’t wait to take the stage.

“They’re very excited to be back,” he said. “Everyone is super excited.”

Others involved in putting on the production include assistant director Karen McDaid, musical director Tara Thomas, choreographer Kathy Gaspar, and technical director Adam Desjardins.

The show will be held in the DMS auditorium at 366 Slocum Road. Tickets will be available at the door for $10 each.
